Has the devil given up on you?
by jt stumbler ini remember being told that the reason witnesses experience difficulties in life is because the devil is concentrating his efforts on "gods people".
and that he doesn't care about the "people of the world" because he already has turned them away from "the truth".
from what i've noticed from this forum, their are plenty of people who are experiencing some bad situations.

Actually I am an agent of the devil, but my duties are largely ceremonial.

Shall I compare thee to a summers day
Sonnet 18
William ShakespeareShall I compare thee to a summer's day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate.
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer's lease hath all too short a date.
Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
And often is his gold complexion dimmed;
And every fair from fair sometime declines,
By chance, or nature's changing course untrimmed.
But thy eternal summer shall not fade
Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow'st;
Nor shall death brag thou wand'rest in his shade,
When in eternal lines to time thou grow'st,
So long as men can breathe or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee. -

Elsewhere, I just said the same thing the other day, you know you are getting old when all the actors you grew up watching start dying off.

The Bible...trust in Faith or trust in Fact?
by jgnat ini read the most extraordinary claim the other day.
"the bible is factual.
" i wondered, how could the speaker possibly back up such a claim?

Rex,
I guess I was just trying to say that faith, any faith I might have at least is just something I have that I don't attribute any specific reason for, sort of like unconditional love, no reason for it, it just is. I don't think it bolsters my faith to try and use scientific methods to try and prove any of it.
By the same token the total abscence of scientific proof of a God etc. doesn't impact my faith at all. If I want to know how my computer works I rely on the scientific method which it is well suited for, if I want to ponder the nature of God I wouldn't use the scientific method, it just doesn't work.
That's all I was trying to say, faith is like love, you can't quantify it, or measure it, or produce it in a lab, it just is.

Heres your chance..........

i have been going through extreme stress, almost disstress.
i will not reveal what it is at this time.

Not sure if anyone said this but I have always believed in attacking whatever is causing me stress. The old a good offense is the best defense. If this is the kind of problem that allows for that sort of mentality it usually works for me, I just attack whatever it is causing me stress and eliminate it, a report hanging over me, I just dive in and finish it, etc. Just my two cents.

jgnat, wonderful post/thread. I agree with all of the above, people should not try to pass their faith off as fact, nor should they try to use science on matters of faith. Each has its own domain and should stay there.

Watchtower Gives Up Explaining 607 BCE Date!
by VM44 inthis is a very important observation, that the watchtower has not tried to explain in print why 607 bce is the year for the destruction of jerusalem for the last 17 years!!!.
all that the watchtower has done over most of the last two decades is to repeat over and over the year "607bce" in its publications as if it is an unquestioned fact!.
the last time an explaination for the year was attempted by the watchtower was in 1988 when the "insight" volumes were published, but since then, no explaination for the validity of the year has appeared in print.. this must mean something, but what?
